The Amy Cowl is a very easy button up…cowl.
You can have odd buttons (like me while I was cleaning out my stash)
or matching. It’s very warm and snug and can be opened up to let the
air in. Marvellous!
Perfect for beginners right up to experts.


To fit one size: Adult
Finished length: approx 51 cms (20 inches).


1 ball King Cole Magnum Lightweight Chunky
Shown in Lawn Green and Aqua
1 pair size 6mm needles
6 medium sized buttons (matching or odd)
1 yarn needle

Skills required:

Knit stitches
Purl stitches
Knitting two stitches together
Using yarn overs (wrapping yarn over needle)


15sts / 20 rows = 10 cms (4 inches) in stocking stitch


k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
yo = yarn over the needle

Using 6mm straight needles, cast on 43 stitches.

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Purl

Rows 1 & 2 make the stocking stitch pattern.
Continue in stocking stitch until work measures 48 cms (19 inches) or desired length around neck, ending after row 2.

Buttonhole row: k3, *k2tog, k5 rep from * to last 5 stitches, k2tog, k3
Next Row: p4, *yo, p6, rep from * to last 3 stitches, yo, p3

Repeat rows 1 – 2 twice more
Cast off

To Make Up

Weave in loose ends
Sew on 6 buttons corresponding to the button holes. They can be matching or odd, depending on your style.
Block to measurements
